Course Description
Class hours: 3 lecture +1 hr. lab. arr.
Prerequisite: None.
Corequisite: None.
This course provides the student with the essential knowledge required for a well-rounded understanding of the use of the computer as a tool to produce useful information in small and large work environments. The course allows the student to achieve an understanding of computer technology, computer hardware, computer software and how computers can be used to produce meaningful information. The student will solve applied problems in spreadsheet preparation and analysis using Microsoft EXCEL and in database management using Microsoft Access.

Computer Access:
Students must have access to the Internet.
Access is available in Cerritos College computer labs.
Acquire an e-mail account and enter your email address into your MyCerritos profile. This account will be used to maintain contact with the instructor.
Computer Assignments:
Students will be required to complete assignments using Microsoft Windows XP, Excel 2003, & Access 2003. Assignments will be e-mailed to the instructor as attached files.
Assignments will be posted as web pages for student access 1 - 2 weeks prior to the deadline. This provides students time to complete each assignment before the deadline posted on each assignment page.
Assignments must be completed, including any necessary corrections, prior to the deadline.
Assignments not completed before the deadline will not be given credit.
Attendance:
You are required to attend class.
You may be dropped from class for lack of attendance as specified in the Cerritos College catalog.
You may be dropped from class for lack of academic progress. Academic progress will be measured by the timely submission of assignments. You may be dropped if you have submitted less than 60% of the assignments. This will be checked every three weeks.
Expectations
It is expected that you will participate actively by maintaining communication with the instructor in class and via e-mail, submitting assignments according to due dates listed on the assignment pages, completing assigned readings as listed on the syllabus/assignment list, and responding to requests/questions by the instructor in a timely manner.
